FOCUS. This five-letter word is all based on perspective and perspective. Normally, we are instructed to “stay focused” when there is a task at hand that we have been asked to complete and distractions consume our time and energy. Real truth. I love going to my opthamologist. Not only is the conversation refreshing, but I also get to see life through a fresh set of lens. I usually don’t realize that I have not had the brightest view until she flips the lens and gives me a renewed perspective. Because of increased clarity, the world around me immediately seems brighter and more alive. Has that ever happened to you?
I am so surprised to note that, even though I could see, the potential of sight was not at its optimum until I received a new lens. Amazing, huh? Listen. I get it. There are so many things that compete for our attention on a daily basis. Yet, we must know how to effectively balance each task and prioritize without feeling overwhelmed and losing sight of the “why” of “what” we started. Once we feel jolted, unfocused and out of place, it causes our attitudes and demeanor to change – and that ultimately will affect the outcome of our day. If you wear glasses, you know how frustrating it is to not have them on when you need them. Have you ever needed your glasses to find your glasses? Do you remember how agitated you were before you found them? Well, that is the same feeling you have when you are not in focus. When you are unorganized and vision has no instruction or plan, it is compared to needing glasses and not having them – your entire focus is impaired, causing major levels of out of sort emotions.
This is why it is important to communicate, and more important to communication is staying focused! Keep your eye planted on the target! Speaking of focus – know when it is time to remove yourself and press the restart button. Success is directly aligned to focus and focus requires sacrifice and discipline. Whatever it is you are doing, or plan to do, it is going to require balance and focus. Be sincere with yourself and realign your goals. Re-position your thinking and understand that YOU are IN IT TO WIN IT!
